Cancer New Moon - July 3 2008

new moon cancerEvery man is a divinity in disguise. Ralph Waldo Emerson

We hear about the birth of a child and ask questions like, "What did she have? How much did it weigh?" and "Does it have any hair" The Athabaskan Indian hear of a birth and ask, "Who came?" Lisa Delpit

Where are you searching for me, friend? Look! Here am I right within you. Not in temple, not in mosque, not in Kaaba nor Kailas, but here right within you. Kabir

He whose face gives no light can never become a star. William Blake

The Cancer new moon occurs on July 2 in the United States and July 3 in Australia and Europe. The Sabian Symbol is Cancer 12: A Chinese Woman Nursing a Baby Whose Aura Reveals Him to be the Reincarnation of a Great Teacher.

Dane Rudhyar, the astrologer whose work popularized the Sabian Symbols, said of this degree that it's "The promise to all men that God may take birth within their souls".

From my book - The Sabian Symbols as an Oracle:

Commentary: The ‘Chinese Woman’ senses something ‘Great’ in the ‘Baby’ she is ‘Nursing’. The fact that she is ‘Chinese’ is significant, as the ‘Chinese’ have had a long tradition of seeking the spiritual layers of life. The ‘Woman’ is sensing and seeing something in the young person that other nannies may not. She’s aware that he holds great talent and gifts for the future. His ‘Aura Reveals Him to be the Reincarnation of a Great Teacher’. Being able to see reverence in young people that appear to be “old” or “evolved” souls is an expression of a strong intuitive sensitivity. The ‘Woman’ sees that this child, this ‘Baby’, has a unique and special talent that can be of benefit to the world in some way. The ‘Child’ needs to be nurtured, nourished and cared for so he can reach his full potential.

Oracle: Messages of hope for the future are coming through younger and more vital elements. There may be an opportunity to learn important lessons from younger beings. The feeling that someone is an “old soul” can be felt but can be rather hard to explain; it seems to come with a special kind of “knowing”. While taking the time to try and make sense of it, the benefit or insight may be lost. The joy and power of young people is fleeting and may require close attention to truly appreciate. This Symbol shows seeing the greatness in others, and this may be speaking about you, (your talents, your specialness) regardless of your age. Good nourishment and care increases everybody’s ability to make the most of their potential. Nurturing and caring for any small, but nonetheless significant, talents can allow things to blossom into something beyond present expectations. Are you a ‘Great Teacher?’ Do you have largely untapped talents?

Keywords: Nurturing innocence and its rewards. Reincarnation and past lives. Charisma and presence. Channeling entities. Tibetan mysteries. Monks and the Dalai Lama. Ancient knowledge. Child prodigies. Seeing greatness ahead of its time. Indigo children. Discovering latent talent. Visions. Holistic perceptions. Potential. Nurses. Nannies. Finding the one. Auras. Special people.

Watch out for more news about China, Tibet, and most particularly, the Dalai Lama. This degree is the degree before the 'karmic condition' degree of the Dalai Lama's Sun - his Sun degree is Cancer 14: A Very Old Man Facing a Vast Dark Space to the Northeast. Notice how China is 'northeast' of Tibet. Certainly, it feels like the 'great teacher' was incarnating just days before the Dalai Lama's birth. Also, George W. Bush has the same birthday (I'll leave you to your own conclusions on that one!) - notice how Washington is northeast from the vast majority of the United States.

Look for domestic issues, how are you getting along with family? How's your sense of place? How's your sense of belonging to country, your job, your relationships?

Jupiter in Capricorn, opposite Venus and the new moon, is on another 'child' degree. It's on Capricorn 19: A Child Carrying a Large Shopping Bag Filled With Groceries. This degree often shows the need, but also the ability, of being able to shoulder and carry responsibilities.

Jupiter on this degree can bring up onerous jobs and chores and things to live up to, but it can also show someone who's grown beyond their years - they display the ability to be able to tackle jobs and projects that others may find too weighty or difficult.

cancer moonOn top of having to carry rather onerous loads, we have Mercury on the 'going on strike' degree. It's at Gemini 21: A Tumultuous Labor Demonstration and, indeed, it's a matter of 'Aw Jeez, not this sh.. again' for sure. We're in a place where we have to cope with all the things we have to do. But there's always an upside; perhaps we can find ways of improving all that stuff we have to get through, at least improving how we think about it. We could surely do without the headaches, which could be backed up by Chiron, the Wounded Healer and the Big Story teller of the Zodiac on Aquarius 21: A Woman Disappointed and Disillusioned Facing a Seemly Empty Life. Whether you're male or female, does this strike a chord? If you, or someone close to you, are feeling like this, the out appears to be the new moon degree, with it's acceptance of greatness and having a destiny in this world (sometimes larger than life!).

Venus is smack opposite Jupiter on this new moon. This is a wonderful opposition, bringing up feelings of love, generosity and expansion, but there's a caution in over doing things - overbuying, over commiting, taking on too much, promising too much. Spending is a big issue with this opposition. Another issue could be finding that you've got far too much 'stuff' - Cancer is a big collector, buyer and hoarder. What can you throw out? What's cramping your style and just taking up space?

Venus is on a great degree and one that reminds us to be grateful of our relationships - especially the sanctity of the special ones in our lives. Venus is on Cancer 19: A Priest Performing a Marriage Ceremony. Making the right kind of commitments and remembering how wonderful special people are in our lives helps us to shoulder the burdens that can arise. (Notice that Capricorn 19 - the child with the heavy load is smack opposite Cancer 19 - the marriage degree.)
